Getting started
What you need
- Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit, on a PC with a 64-bit processor with 4 cores or more, 4 GB of memory and 100 MB of free disk space.
- Speakers or headphones connected to the PC.
That's all. ComposerFlex comes with PianoFlex Player, a piano that plays its songs, and the ComposerFlex installer puts it on your PC for you. If you have PianoFlex, ComposerFlex can play on that instead.
Your first song
- Start ComposerFlex. Open the Start menu and click ComposerFlex. The first time, it opens the preset Romantic Nocturne, and the yellow line says "Opened Romantic Nocturne. Press Start when ready."
- Click Start. If no piano is running yet, ComposerFlex starts PianoFlex Player for you, and a moment later the song begins.
- Listen. While the song plays, the Song status line shows which phrase you're in (by number), the bar, the tempo and the key.
- Click Stop when you want to stop.
Click Start again for a new song from the same preset. Every song is different.
The first time after you switch on your PC, PianoFlex Player can take a little longer to start. If the yellow line says it isn't answering yet, click Start again in a moment.
What to try next
- Try another preset. Click the name next to Preset at the top of the window and choose another, such as Ragtime, Bossa Nova or Lo-fi Chill. See Presets.
- Make your own mix. On the Ingredients tab, click Random for a new list of ingredients, from Smart to Wild. Or change the list yourself. See Ingredients.
- Choose how long the songs are. Set Minutes in the Song panel.
- Keep a song you like. Save it in the Song Library, and you can play it again later. See Songs and seeds.
- Change the piano. In PianoFlex Player, choose a different room. In PianoFlex, choose any of its presets, even while the song plays.
If you hear nothing
- Read the yellow line. It tells you what ComposerFlex did and what it found.
- Check that PianoFlex Player (or PianoFlex) is running, and that its volume is up.
- For more, see If something doesn't work.
Uninstalling
Uninstall ComposerFlex from Windows' Settings, Apps, Installed apps. PianoFlex Player, which came with it, goes too, unless you also installed the Player on its own. Your songs, presets, Song Library, settings and license key stay. To start afresh with ComposerFlex's settings, delete the folder %APPDATA%\Flex Music Labs\ComposerFlex (type it into File Explorer's address bar).
