GuitarFlex vs Heavyocity guitars
Heavyocity's guitars and GuitarFlex do different jobs. Scoring Guitars 2 and Damage Guitars 2 are Heavyocity's guitar libraries for Kontakt Player: phrases, riffs, pads and textures for scoring, from $99 and $299. GuitarFlex is modeled, not sampled: a guitar you play note by note from MIDI, with presets for steel-string and nylon-string acoustic and electric clean, crunch and heavy guitars, a download of 18.2 MB, and $79.
What they have in common
- Windows 10 and 11 (for Damage Guitars 2), as a standalone program and as a plugin.
- Guitar parts from MIDI. Heavyocity's libraries and GuitarFlex both sit in your host and play when MIDI reaches them.
Where Heavyocity's guitars stand out
- Phrases and textures built in. Scoring Guitars 2 has pulses, phrases, pads, ambient beds and drones, and rhythmic pedals, with 300+ presets. GuitarFlex has no phrases of its own.
- Riffs with matching bass lines, leads and motifs in Damage Guitars 2, in three styles and three keys, with more than 600 melodic elements.
- A Designer Engine that layers hybrid and granular sources.
- Recorded guitars processed and layered by sound designers, plus a multi-sampled semi-hollow guitar in Scoring Guitars 2.
- Mac as well as Windows, with AU and AAX plugins as well as standalone and VST.
Where GuitarFlex stands out
- A guitar you play note by note. Heavyocity's pages describe phrase and texture tools for scoring. GuitarFlex plays a chord, a lead line or a part from a MIDI file, on any guitar preset.
- No other program. Heavyocity's libraries need Kontakt Player. GuitarFlex runs on its own.
- A stated size. GuitarFlex is an 18.2 MB download that installs at 43.9 MB. Scoring Guitars 2 is 4.1 GB compressed, and Damage Guitars 2 takes 7.95 GB on disk.
- $79, against a list price of $99 for Scoring Guitars 2 and $299 for Damage Guitars 2.
- No account and no online activation. A license key and your email address, entered once for each Windows user on each computer, and one license for one person, to use on all of their own computers. It never connects to the internet.
- Your own settings. Over 70 sliders for the pluck, string, pickup, body, amp, cabinet, reverb and EQ, in four slots (A to D) with Compare, Vary and Randomize.
- Your song to a file. It renders a MIDI file to FLAC, or to WAV with the included command-line renderer.
- Built to play ComposerFlex's band, our songwriting program, on the same PC with no setup. Strums and articulations arrive from ComposerFlex, not from special keys.

Owning both
They don't overlap much, so they can share one PC: Heavyocity for scoring phrases and textures, GuitarFlex for a guitar that plays your MIDI. GuitarFlex's demo is here; for Heavyocity, go by its own pages. This page doesn't compare how they sound. That's for your ears.
The facts side by side

Phrase and texture tools for scoring rather than guitars played note by note. |
