If something doesn't work
I hear nothing
First, read the yellow line after you click Start. It tells you what ComposerFlex did and what it found.
If Output is set to PianoFlex (OSC):
- Check that PianoFlex Player or PianoFlex is running. ComposerFlex starts PianoFlex Player by itself when no piano is running. If the yellow line says PianoFlex Player could not be found, run the ComposerFlex installer again, which installs it.
- If you use PianoFlex, look at OSC at the top of its window. It should show a number. If it reads "off", another program is using its connection, usually another copy of PianoFlex. Close that copy. PianoFlex connects within a second, or click OSC in PianoFlex to try again at once.
- Check the piano's own volume, and that it isn't muted.
If Output is set to MIDI port: check that your instrument, or your virtual MIDI port, is connected and ready, and that it's the one shown beside MIDI port. If no port is chosen, or the one you chose isn't connected, nothing plays, and the yellow line says so: click MIDI port and choose the port your music program listens to. If the yellow line says ComposerFlex can't open the port, another program is probably using it: close that program, or choose another port.
If the list of ingredients has no generator, there are no notes to play. Add a tune or a left-hand part, or choose a preset.
In demo mode, the song fades out after 20 minutes, and the yellow line tells you the session is over. Close ComposerFlex and start it again, or enter your license key. See Demo mode and your license.
Some notes are missing in my music program
In demo mode, ComposerFlex leaves the notes of eight keys out of what it sends to a MIDI port: Output reads MIDI port (demo), and the yellow line says "Demo: the MIDI port leaves out 8 keys." Through PianoFlex Player, songs play in full. A license key sends every note. See Demo mode and your license.
Start does nothing, or says "Not saved"
One of the boxes in the window has a number that's too high or too low. The yellow line names it, for example Minutes or BPM. Correct it and click Start again.
The same seed gives a different song
A song is made from the seed together with all the ingredients and settings. If any of them is different, the song is too. Check the preset, Minutes, BPM, Scale, Key, Dynamics, Song variation, and the phrase choices.
To be sure a song plays the same every time, save it in the Song Library, which keeps all of these for you. See Songs and seeds.
A new song doesn't show in the Archive
Click Refresh on the Archive tab. Also check that MIDI archive is ticked at the top of the window.
Reporting a problem
- Click the Help tab, then About.
- Click Copy details. This copies ComposerFlex's version, your Windows version, and the settings of the song.
- Paste it into an email to [email protected], and tell us what you did and what happened.
We read every message. We can't promise a personal reply to each one, but refund requests and license-key problems always get one.
