PianoFlex by the numbers: size and memory
PianoFlex makes its piano sound as you play, from a model of the hammers, strings, soundboard and room. It plays no recordings of a piano. So there's no sample library to download, install or load, and the whole piano fits in a small program.
Size on disk
| What | Size |
|---|---|
| The PianoFlex setup (program, plugin, help) | a 16.5 MB download, 34.2 MB installed |
| PianoFlex, the program | 17.6 MB |
| PianoFlex, the VST3 plugin | 16.3 MB |
| PianoFlex Player (comes with ComposerFlex) | 12.0 MB |
| Sample library | none: nothing else to download |
Sizes are in decimal megabytes (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes). Windows counts in larger units, so it shows smaller numbers for the same files: 16.7 MB for the program, 15.5 MB for the plugin, 11.4 MB for the Player, 15.7 MB for the setup's download and 32.6 MB installed.
Every preset, Piano, Style and Space comes inside the program. A preset of your own is a small text file.
Memory while playing
| The sound engine alone (no window), playing a busy song in real time | Memory |
|---|---|
| Session Player, in the Studio room (where PianoFlex starts) | about 38 MB |
| Ghost Strings, a layered preset with a long reverb | about 124 MB |
Layers use more memory, because each layer is a piano of its own.
The files it makes
- Render to audio and Record write 24-bit stereo FLAC, at the sound device's rate (often 48 kHz): lossless, about 5 to 8 MB per minute of piano.
- A recording also writes a MIDI file of your notes, a few kilobytes.
- Song videos are MP4 files. Their size depends on the length and the picture.
All of these go into the PianoFlex folder in your Documents.
